Oahu History Tour – Ten Historic Honolulu Buildings

There is so much wonderful art and architecture around Honolulu, it is hard to know where to start.  Some of the best sights can be seen just by driving around in your car and keeping an eye out for historic buildings.

Here I will describe ten very historic Honolulu buildings that you can see when you visit Oahu.  Seeing these historic buildings and learning a little about them is like taking a trip back in time to the olden days of Honolulu.  There are many great vacation rentals and hotel deals on Oahu right now, so once you are settled in, take a drive around and check out some of these famous old buildings.

The first building on our historic tour is Washington Place, which was built in 1847 at 20 South Beretania Street in downtown Honolulu, right next to Iolani Palace.

This is a beautiful home that was constructed by John Dominis, the merchant sea captain who was the father of John Owen Dominis, the husband of Queen Liliuokalani.

Wine Tasting In Hawaii

Island Wineries Offer Hawaiian-Style Wine Tasting

Did you know there are some great wine tasting opportunities in Hawaii?  Here I will tell you about two of them, one on the Big Island and one on Maui.

Volcano Winery is located not far from Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island and offers a bit of sophistication amidst the region’s raw nature of erupting lava and steaming volcanic vents.

As the southernmost winery in the U.S., Volcano Winery specializes in tropical fruit and honey wines.  This is a true winery that grows, harvests, ferments, and bottles their own wines, and also sells them on the premises and ships them.

Kona Coffee Tasting Tour and Cultural Events – Fun For All!

I love Kona!  Where else can you visit gourmet Kona coffee farms on the mountain slopes in the morning – sipping world-class aromatic coffees and meeting farmers – and then in the afternoon enjoy a concert on the lawn of a royal palace by the sea.  I have a great Kona Vacation Rental right near the beach, and I come here over and over again.

The next free concert at Hulihee Palace in downtown Kailua Kona is August 23. Alii Drive will become a pedestrian-only. These events are very enjoyable as area artists, musicians, merchants and local restaurants all contribute to the festive atmosphere.

You can also take a 60-minute self-guided tour of Kona Town with the Kona Historical Society starting at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. Of course there are lots more fun things to do in Kona, but right now I want to tell you about the Kona coffee farms and farmers.
