Best Lunch in Lahaina

Honu Seafood & Pizza Offers Distinct Hawaii Cuisine

We recently tried lunch at Honu right on Front Street in Lahaina. In Hawaiian Honu means turtle, and in front of the restaurant there are turtles swimming and popping up for air between dives.

The restaurant highlights incredible shellfish; fresh Dungeness crab cocktails, oysters on the half shell, shrimp Louis and lobster rolls.  My favorite is the steamed mussels, Ahi Salad and fresh Island fish (Ono – a mild, delicate fish whose name means delicious) served Dore style with quinoa. They have the best fish and chips on Maui.

The crab mac & cheese is heavy for an entrée but makes a good item to share.  For dessert we tried a lilikoi crème brûlée with a refreshing cup of 100% Kaanapali iced coffee.

Kauai’s Hanalei Bay is Popular Family Vacation Destination

Set beneath the scenic, waterfall-lined mountains of Kauai’s north shore, Hanalei Bay is one of Hawaii’s finest beach areas for families and ocean activity enthusiasts.

A three-mile crescent of golden sand borders the clear, blue waters of Hanalei Bay providing idyllic beach walks with views of the verdant north shore mountains.

Ocean Sports Abound in Hanalei

Hanalei Bay’s relatively well-protected waters make it a popular location for a variety of watersports activities from swimming and kayaking to surfing to stand up paddleboarding. During the summer months Hanalei Bay is typically as calm as a lake, making it perfect for families with young children.

Eat, Drink And Be Merry on Kauai

Food is the focus of many vacations and the Hawaiian islands offer dishes certain to appeal to the comfort food needs and the indulgent dining we rarely find time for during routine lives. The farmers’ markets on Kauai are filled with tastes of fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and other items for picnics or as ingredients for a great dinner at your vacation rental. The local food scene features a myriad of opportunities for innovative and adventurous dining.

Not to be overlooked is local wine, specifically, honey wine or mead. Nani Moon Meadery in Kapaa is Hawaii’s sole meadery, creating the wine from local honey and fruit. Visit their tasting room, try their semi-sweet or other meads, pack it in your picnic basket and ship it home. While visiting Kauai, you’ll find several small businesses that lend authentic experiences to your stay, with a chance to talk with local business owners and enjoying genuine Kauai items.
