Snorkeling on Oahu’s North Shore – An Abundance of Fish and other Marine Life!
I have often been asked by visitors staying on the North shore of Oahu: Where is the best snorkeling?
Sharks Cove is about a five minute drive from Sunset Beach and is one of the north shore’s finest snorkeling and scuba diving locations. With an extensive coral reef, Shark’s Cove exhibits a variety of marine life in its natural environment.
The reef at Shark’s Cove can only be accessed during calm seas which typically occur during the summer months. Turtles are frequently seen in the cove, and there is also a wonderful beach for swimmers.
Safety While Snorkeling at Shark’s Cove
There are no lifeguards at Shark’s Cove so use caution and do not enter the water if there is strong surf or currents. Read snorkeling safety tips and follow the proper precautions.
I recommend you wear shoes at all times due to the sharp coral and rock formations. The Ocean drops off to about 25 feet at the end of the reef.
Where To Eat After Your Shark’s Cove Snorkeling Adventure
Across the street from Shark’s Cove is a Starbucks coffee shop and a Foodland grocery store where you can get your basic needs or some of the local foods such as Sushi and Poke (pronounced (po-kee). Poke is a Hawaiian favorite consisting of fresh, raw fish mixed with other local ingredients such as Maui onions.
