Honolua Bay on Maui

Everyone is always asking where to snorkel on Maui. Here is my answer:

Honolua Bay Marine Sanctuary in West Maui is an absolute must for divers and snorkelers. You can drive to the Bay, or better yet you can take an amazing snorkeling excursion on the the Hula Girl – a 65ft. Sailing Catamaran.

The Hula Girl departs from Kaanapali Beach, in front of the Hula Grill at Whalers Village. Not only is this the most impressive catamaran I have ever seen or been on, the services are outstanding!

Dining On Board the Hula Girl

This is not your average sack-lunch snorkeling trip. You are given a variety of gourmet surf or turf lunch selections to chose from and they are prepared daily by their on board chef. For guests like me who missed breakfast, they serve an Ala Carte Breakfast on board.

There is also an extensive selection of top shelf cocktails, beers and wine. If you have any young or elderly persons in your group not wishing to swim or snorkel, Hula Girl is ideal. There are two air conditioned galleys with several comfortable cushioned seating areas and booth seats, as well free wifi.

Under the Sea at Honolua Bay

The marine life in Honolua Bay is breathtaking. You’re always guaranteed to see lots of fish, turtles and coral. Keeping in mind there is only a very small beach here, so this is more of a water lovers spot.

My last trip to Honolua Bay on the Hula Girl was unforgettable. I was snorkeling across the bay and I heard dolphins. I decided to follow the sounds and found myself swimming, literately 10 feet from 3 dolphins, possibly a mother, father and baby.

Incredibly, I was able to swim with them for several minutes and snapped a few once in a lifetime photos (with the camera I bought aboard the Hula Girl). This was the most amazing experience I have ever had snorkeling and highly recommend it to all my clients!
