The Historic Kilauea Point Lighthouse
Kauai the oldest Island in the Hawaiian chain, and I believe it’s also the most beautiful. Yet people often think it might be too quiet for them. Well, you can dance the night away at lots of places on the planet, however if you want to unwind and truly experience Mother nature at her best you need to visit the Garden Island of Kauai.
Hiking and Walking Trails On Kauai
For hardy hikers there’s the popular Kalalau trail, a grueling 11-mile hike through the mountains of the Napali Coast. Less experienced hikers will enjoy Kauai’s 7-mile paved path alongside the ocean.
You can walk, jog, skateboard, roller blade, or rent bicycles at numerous nearby kiosks on the East shore. And if you’re visiting in the winter months the path is ideal for whale watching!
Wai Koa Loop Trail, Mini Golf and a Historic Lighthouse in Kilauea Town
When you get tired of gazing at the ocean (if that’s possible) you can head to the North Shore for a different perspective at the new 5-mile Wai Koa Loop Trail, an easy and level path that meanders through the lush mountains.
The trail begins in the town of Kilauea at the Mini Golf Course, a unique 18-hole putting green designed with beautiful botanical gardens, water hazards, pipe shots and other obstacles.
The Mini Golf Course is a fun and educational Hawaiian adventure for all ages. If you don’t get sidetracked with a putter you can rent bicycles at the course, or walk the Wai Koa trail and experience the mauka (mountain) side of Kauai. Oh, and did I mention the majestic sunsets, spectacular waterfalls, starlit nights and over 50 miles of white sand beaches yet?
In Kilauea you can also visit the historic Kilauea Point Lighthouse at the northernmost point in the Hawaiian Islands. The Lighthouse is part of a protected refuge area where you can see many species of nesting seabirds, and during the winter months this is a great place to look for humpback whales passing by offshore.
Night Life on the Kauai’s North Shore – Tahiti Nui in Hanalei Town
When you are on the North Shore of Kauai you have to stop in Hanalei at the Tahiti Nui Restaurant/Bar! It is a local place that has been in business since 1964, and run by the same local family who still keep it like it was when mom first opened with live local music and great food.
At Tahiti Nui you will enjoy talking to the older locals who have been coming in to talk story and play great Hawaiian music for years. It’s great for all ages, and the food is the best. Fresh fish comes in daily from the local fisherman and you have to try the pizza really the best on the island. Make sure you have the special Mai Tai’s.
Tahiti Nui has Great Food, Local Music and George Clooney was Here!
When George Clooney made his move the Descendants this is where he would go have fun! Tahiti Nui is open 7 days a week – with plenty of live entertainment and even hula dancing – so you can’t miss having a special time and you will make good friends that will welcome you whenever you come back to the island!!
