The new hit show Hawaii Five-O ended its first season in early May with a cliffhanger episode. CBS recently announced that the popular new television series was being picked up for another season that will begin airing in the fall of 2011.

The season finale of Hawaii Five-O was true to form with car chases, explosions and more of the excitement that people have come to expect from the action adventure series. Former Lost actor Daniel Dae Kim who plays detective Chin Ho Kelly called the finale “the strongest episode of the season.”

Actor Alex O’Loughlin, who plays the Steve McGarrett as the head of the crime-fighting Five-O team, reminisced about shooting the 23 episodes and a pilot and noted that the cast and crew had bonded during their time in the Islands which included many long workdays. O’Laughlin has said that he will spend the summer between his hometown Australia as well as Los Angeles and Hawaii.

Actor Scott Caan, who plays Danno Williams, will be working on his other job at the hit show Entourage and may also perform in a play. Caan is a fairly experienced surfer, and though he hurt his knee early in the season which kept him out of the water, once it healed he began enjoying riding Hawaii’s waves.

The new Hawaii Five-O show has been a boon for local businesses and sites featured in the show. For example, since the Battleship Missouri Memorial was featured in an early episode it has led to a surge of tourists at the historic Pearl Harbor site.

Businesses featured in the show, such as Waiola Shave Ice, have also seen a surge in sales. The Kona Brewing Company has seen a large jump in sales since the show’s Steve McGarrett has made clear his preference for the the company’s Longboard Ale.

Perhaps the largest “product” that has seen great benefits from the Hawaii Five-O show has been the state of Hawaii itself. All over the world people are seeing the crystal blue waters of Hawaii along with the green mountains and clear skies and wanting to come to Hawaii. This worldwide exposure has come to be known as the “Five-O Effect.” The chief network executive at CBS recently called Hawaii Five-O their next billion dollar franchise along with NCIS and CSI.

A bit slicker and more stylized than the original series, the new Hawaii Five-O is huge on action and special effects. The characters also have more depth and back-story, better equipment and more advanced weapons.

Guest stars on the new Hawaii Five-O have included several marquee names including Sean Combs (aka “Puff Daddy”) who played an undercover New York police officer. Combs has said that he grew up in New York watching the original Hawaii Five-O.

The show also relies heavily on local actors and extras as well as local crews. Stay tuned for the second season of Hawaii Five-O, an exciting crime-fighting drama with the beautiful backdrop of the Hawaiian Islands thrilling viewers around the globe.
