June marks the beginning of summer and the busy season for vacationing in Hawaii. It’s no wonder there are so many great Hawaii events beginning next month. As more people flock to the islands for summer vacation, there are naturally more things to do for our visitors. Here are some of our favorite upcoming events.
Maui Events
Maui Film Festival
From June 17 to June 21 in Wailea, Maui check out this film festival which includes filmmaker panels, private parties, and A-List tributes as well as world-class culinary arts events.
18th Annual Ki Hoalu Festival
The Ki Hoalu Festival will be held at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahalui. Maui on June 28. The festival features many of Hawaii’s best slack key guitar players. Big Island Events
4th 2009 Na Mea Hawaii Hula Kahiko Performance
On June 20 at the Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island you can enjoy traditional hula and chants performed outdoors on the hula platform overlooking Kilauea Crater.
Maui Jim Hawaii Marlin Fishing Tournaments
A series of tournaments sponsored by Maui Jim in Kona Bay begins with the 13th Annual Kona Classic held at the end of June. 2 other fishing tournaments in the series take place in July and the series ends in August.
Kona Marathon and Family Fun Runs
The Kona Marathon takes place in Volcano, Hawaii on June 28. This event features a half-marathon, 5K, and 10 K runs along the shoreline and also the Marathon that extends deep into the island’s lava landscape. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park 29th Annual Cultural Festival
This annual Cultural Festival in Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island takes place on July 11 from 10 am to 3 pm. The goal of the Festival is to perpetuate traditional Hawaiian arts and culture. Hula is performed along with Hawaiian music and craft demonstrations by local practitioners. For more information call (808) 985-6166.

Kauai Events
Banana Poka Roundup
On June 21 at Kokee State Park the Banana Poka Roundup is put on by the Hui o Laka and Kokee Natural History Museum. This forest education fair features live music, lei making, basket making, Oshibana workshops and numerous exhibitors. For more information contact kokeemuseum@earthlink.net.
Kauai Concert Association 2nd Annual Red Clay Jazz Festival
The Red Clay Jazz Festival will be held at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club on June 27 and June 28. For more information call (808) 245-7464.
