Aloha! Are you one of those people who can’t function in the morning until you get that sweet, sweet cup of joe? If so, locally grown coffee is one part of your Hawaii vacation you won’t want to miss.
Hawaii is the only U.S. state that produces coffee beans. Growing coffee requires a combination of altitudes, soil conditions and temperatures unique to the tropics. Luckily, all these factors come together on the Big Island, where the world-famous Kona coffee is made.
Though Kona has earned the biggest reputation, it’s hardly the only bean on the block. Kau, Puna, and Hamakua coffee beans are also grown throughout the Hawaiian islands. Each kind of bean has it’s own flavors and nuance, so if you’re not sure which is your favorite, you’ll just have to try them all!
