Hawaiian phrases you should know for your vacation [Video]

Heading to Hawaii for your next vacation? Although English is spoken all over the islands, Hawaiian is as well. Here are a few phrases to know for your trip:

You’ve probably already heard of “aloha.” This means both “hello” and “goodbye,” but it is also used as a stand-in for nearly any and every positive emotion.

Another word you’ll definitely see in Hawaii is “mahalo,” which means “thank you.” Using this on the island will show you’ve done your research.

Finally, you might see signs saying “Kapu” if you go out hiking or exploring. This word has deep religious roots, and today it’s used to mark off private areas and translates roughly to “Keep out.”

These are just a few of the many bits of Hawaiian language you’ll find on your trip. Aloha, and see you soon!
