Beachfront Hideaway - Our stay at the Beachfront Hideaway was excellent! We loved the king size bed, spaciousness of the rooms and closets, washer and dryer with detergent to use, flatscreen TV, and how close we were to the beach. Every morning we would wake up at 5:15 and go for a walk. Then we would get back in time for 5:45 sunrise breakfast on the lawn area. The most beautiful sunrise pictures we took were from Kailua beach. Herb had boogie boards, chairs and beachmats to use. We rented a double kayak in town and kayaked to the Mokulua Islands which we could view from our beach. A sea turtle swam along with us on the way back. The sand was gorgeous. It felt like we lived there because we were just steps away from the ocean which was turquois and clear. We liked the town of Kailua too. We went to Lucy's for a nice meal and had the best drinks of the islands...(Kailua Passion are delicious!) We were a short drive away from Dole Pineapple Plantation where we had the best pineapple icecream I've ever had. Then we continued to drive along the north coast beaches stopping at a roadside stand for shrimp. We arrived at the Polynesian Cultural Center after lunch which was well worth the money. We loved the evening show with talented singers, dancers and volcanoes erupting. We did the Mauniwili hike to a waterfall enjoying bamboo ginger and all the other plants and trees along the way. Loved the view as we stepped out each day and came back each day. We would definitely stay here again!!! Best beach on the islands!!! Mark&Sandy from Illinois
Ocean House - The Ocean House is the perfect beach house! We had a fabulous time with our "chosen family"! The breeze that blows through the house was all we needed to be comfortable. We could have easily never left the neighborhood to have a vacation well beyond our expectations. Lanikai beach is amazing!! The best part of the trip was relaxing on the beach and floating in the waves. No to mention the turtles!! You will love this rental and I highly recommend it to anyone!
Ka Hale Kaiola - The setting, view, and weather are absolutely magnificent, one of the great vacation spots anywhere! Unit is excellent -- comfortable/luxurious and convenient, for a family group of grandparents 65+, parents 40-ish, and child 5. The sister unit next door is close, but we got along well with the family there, so that was no problem. The Y camp on the other side was occupied for part of the stay, but this was no problem for noise or other disturbance. The best thing was that the surf directly in front of the house was good for swimming and snorkeling almost every day we were there. The factors affecting this are the amount of afternoon wind, which was relatively low while we were there, and the threat of a riptide -- we did not find a rip in the area directly in front and to the right, and many people including children used the water there while we were there. Tunnels, around the corner to the left, is always good, wind-sheltered and safe, with outstanding snorkeling -- deservedly a world-famous beach. The downside is that the deep coarse sand on our beach makes it a longer walk than it looks to Tunnels, so it is nice when the beach in front is swimmable. Note, we saw a sea-turtle near the rock directly in front of the house. The kiteboarders put on a great show every afternoon. As far as eats go, for takeout and casual, we loved Tropical Taco (fish tacos) and the shave-ice trailer in Hanalei, and Kilauea fish market for the great ahi wraps. For high end dinner, Bar Acuda is superb, a really first class restaurant.

Hale Lahaina - After having visited Maui many times before, we flew in our two children and their families from both the East Coast and the West Coast to stay with us for a week at Hale Lahaina to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary! One of the best things about this home was its location on the beach, and also the fact that it has a pool, which proved to be even more popular than the beach, and the place where one could most often find the children and adults, when we were "at home." (....particularly since three of them have been or are on a swim team and/or is an L. A. County Lifeguard and/or is a swim instructor.) The location also made possible many enjoyable walks on the beach into the town of Lahaina!
The Master Suite at Hale Lahaina is quite lovely, but the idyllic setting was marred by the fact that a horrible smell was in the large closet and since the door had been left ajar, emanated out into the room to greet us upon our arrival. We were never able to get rid of the smell with deoderizers during our entire stay. Also a bedside table lamp there was broken when we arrived, and when it was removed later in the week, we were left with none. All of the beds in the place were comfortable, but all of the bedrooms (beside the master suite) were not created equal, due to ventilation problems (since there is no AC) and the fact that there was a large dark stain on the carpet near the entrance to one of them and that same room had a substandard bathroom, also. It was great to have each of the bedrooms have its own private bathroom, however!
Watching the sun rise on Lanai as we looked across the water at its shores each morning, as well as the lovely views of the neighboring islands, the boats and ships in the Lahaina Harbor with spectacular sunsets each day as the sun sank into the ocean, certainly ranked high on our list of enjoyable features.
A favorite evening was spent attending the Old Lahaina Luau with its good food and entertainment and Leilani's was especially enjoyed for tasty fare. Being able to just walk in to Lahaina to one of it s many restaurant locations for lunch was a great plus, also.
Sadly, the difficulties with the screen doors that we read about in a critique over a year ago have not been rectified, and the difficulty of closing some of the sliding doors as well as the screen doors is still irritating and needs to be addressed. In closing, I would suggest great care be taken in giving out current, not expired, combination numbers which are needed to access the rental upon arrival and during ones stay, since it can be quite disconcerting to have arrived but not be able to get into the property.
A special "mahalo" goes to Mary Kress for her time and patience in helping us to find Hale Lahaina!
Plantation Hale - The unit was very comfortable. However, I would recommend central air conditioning for the whole unit, as it did get very hot.. The customer service was outstanding and prompt. Kailua seemed to be a very neat community-oriented town, and a highly desirable place to stay, preferable to Kahala and Hawaii Kai, where I had stayed previously. We ran our youth basketball tournament for the third consecutive year, and we had our most successful tournament in Kaneohe and Hawaii Kai, but we need to get gyms closer to each other. In traveling around the island and visiting all areas and speaking with many locals, it does seem that Kailua is the best place to stay, which seems to be a well-kept secret from the many tourists who visit Oahu.
Menehune Shores 320 - We liked the view from the unit (320) and the ammenities were nice, and we had a great time.
There seeme to be something wrong with the water presure in the gest bath shower, perhaps it was just a poor style of shower head, but we were unable to use that shower.
It was unfortunate that wrk was being done, but the workers were custeous, and we were able to move arouns them as needed.
The Lanikai Bungalow - Loved it! Absolutely enchanting garden surrounding the bungalow, with patio furniture where I enjoyed breakfast and dinner most days, and a relaxing hammock for afternoon naps under the leaves of the banana tree. Owner was very kind and not invasive at all. Only complaint was the next door neighbor (at rear of property) was a very loud talker and could be heard quite easily when she was on the phone. Other than this, it was just awesome.
Garden Aloha 50 East - We loved every aspect of the condo, it was clean;quiet;well stocked with sheets, towels etc. and was only a short walk to the resort and a short drive to several beaches near by.
We all fell in love with Ted's Bakery - wow! I think we went there at least 5 times! Our favorite snorkeling spot was Waimai Bay, we saw beautiful fish, coral and swam with the turtles.
I would definately recommend staying at this particular condo and can't wait till we return!!!
Hale Hanalei Beach House and studio -
The setting was very nice. The main house was great, but the Studio was to hot. It needs a cieling fan. The vacuums didn't work very well. I know we didn't have to do that, but I did it anyway. I like to try and leave a place like I recieved it. I will recomend it to other people. I think the sliding screens should have some yarn of a brite color, sowed in the shape of a Star or something like that. That would make them easier to see, so it wasn't so easy to walk through. I hope we were clean enough for everyone. Over all, we had a great time, and enjoyed the place very much.
Thank you very much,
Ed and Blanche Sommer
Kailua OF Hideaway Ocean Side Unit - Our family enjoyed most of all the quiet ambience of the rental and the magnificent view of the ocean. The unit was clean, and we also enjoyed the small computer room and the computer access. The rental arrangements and the directions were excellent. Our older daughter was on crutches with a recently repaired broken leg, and the downstairs fold-out sofa was perfect. The upstairs bedroom door locks tended to stick at times in the open position, making it difficult at times to get back into the room since the doorknob would not turn, but this was a minor inconvenience - we just kept the door propped open when we were not in the bedrooms. The wonderful ocean breezes and the great view were marvelous. We want to return for a longer time in the future.
